Oak Park Woods at Shepherd Park
Oak Park Woods at Shepherd Park is a 17-acre area located within David H. Shepherd Park in the City of Oak Park. It is jointly operated by OCP and City of Oak Park and is owned by the City of Oak Park. Designed as an open space gateway that will feature accessible trails, seating and gathering areas, a nature-themed playground and updated pavilions and restrooms. Improvements were funded by the Oakland County Parks Healthy Communities Park and Outdoor Recreation Investment Plan at a cost of $7.5 million.
The livingLAB team, along with partners Wade Trim, worked to support the county execute this visions from early engagement and concepts, to documentation supporting the millage, through construction documentation and administration. The recreation space brings a variety of unique recreation, nature and play elements to the community -- with the highlight being a large scale nature playground and associated pavilion restoration.
